Why Butterfly

This narrow concrete path
Stretches
               from here
                               to nowhere
As far as the eye can see
Flanked by endless, evergreen plains
Horizons before, behind
A solitary butterfly
                             flutters
And
       kisses
                 the ground
In its place
A flower
             blooms
Through            the cracks
                                 flies
As it takes off and                 away.

Embers glow
Beneath the skin
Of one so fair
Yet she is incapable
Of life, without breath
Inhalation, and so
She burns quietly
Becoming wisps of fancy
Before the eyes
Disappearing into air
Contemplating
Life, death, existence
And truths, avoided
With moments, all
Consumed in entirety
Till only the end is left
Between the fingers
And with a sigh
She is gone

A prick of the finger
Turns the red rose white
