Restless

Tossing and turning
Without respite
Within a body that craves sleep
The soul seeks to relieve
Its pain, with unreality
and figments, of imagination
Confused, palpable
Yet immaterial, surreal
And altogether, lost
Wishing for more,
Than just
A fading dream.

I am resigned
To loneliness, to solitude
To the irreparable differences
Between us (you, not I)
And perhaps, in this
Singular place (where, where?)
I shall find
Happiness, that is
My own (for me, alone)
Which need not be shared (and selfish, it grows)
Or stem from you
(you, and your smile).

Tea

You were, nearer
Across the sea
Than, here,
In front of me
And if, Sadness
Rains, (it always pours)
Down,
Upon this,
Upon us,
And this,
Invisible distance:
Three feet, with nothing between
But unfinished tea
In small white cups
And the table it sits on
And of course, small talk
(trivial and mundane,
but painfully necessary)
Never reaching farther
Than the sugar and milk
(on my left, your right)
And as you stir your tannin-stained [...]

Own life, mirroring

Daydream of above
With so much insight
It longs for its own.
