I’d lean forward sometimes
(I’ll admit it, a part of me liked the way it felt)
Just to see if it was true
(It was comforting, how it felt firm, unmoving)
Or because I was bored
(I wondered how long it would take)
Or because I’d grown tired of staring

I’d drawn a line, just before my toes, at the point in which I could walk no further. A simple line it was, simple and white, a slash across the floor, made from some chalk I’d found in my pocket. And there I stood, staring at where my feet met the line.
